Summary
Based on the widely performed stageplay of the same name, The Sound of Music is a film adaptation of Maria and the von Trapp family created in 1965. When Maria is called upon to be the governess of the von Trapp family household due to retired naval officer Captain von Trapp being unable to connect or manage his seven children, Maria brings a new warmth and joy into their household through song and love something the family had needed since their mother had passed. As the Captain falls in love with Maria, the new family will seek their new means of life as their homeland has been taken from them by the Nazis. The film was the recipient of five academy awards and is widely recognized as one of the most important cultural movies of all time by several film historians. The musical score was composed by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, and Irwin Kostal.
