Now in Phase Five with 33 feature films under its belt, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has experienced its share of highs and lows since its ambitious inception. There's a general family-friendly tone that permeates through the MCU, but there are still glimpses of different genres and agendas that occasionally arise, especially now that the MCU isn't shying away from R-rated and mature productions. Accordingly, there are occasions where the MCU indulges in horror and prides itself in its ability to frighten and surprise its audience rather than purely deliver action spectacles.
