Where Were the Dwarves During The Lord of the Rings?

The Dwarven armies were absent throughout The Lord of the Rings, and it's because they were fighting an important battle of their own.

The Dwarves have a storied history of warfare in Middle-earth, including conflicts with the Elves. Their greed for shiny things often led to destructive battles, as seen with the Dwarves of Nogrod and Doriath.
Despite their small role in Tolkien's epic saga, the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm fought alongside the Elves and Men in the Last Alliance to eradicate Sauron's influence. They were later dragged into battle again against Sauron's forces in the War of the Ring.
The Dwarves were not absent from The Lord of the Rings, but were actually engaged in a major battle against Sauron's forces.
