Favorite Media
John is an avid fan of all things horror and science fiction. His favorite works include the Evil Dead, Star Wars, and American Horror Story franchises (to name a few). Still, he also has a soft spot for slice-of-life anime, fantasy, and irreverent comedy, so series like Excel Saga, The Lord of the Rings, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Love Hina hold unique places in his heart. This led him to spend most of the spare money from his student loans on a full-sleeve FLCL arm tattoo with no regrets (well, maybe a few).
Author Details
Initially from deep south Texas, John established himself in the culinary industry right out of high school, eventually becoming a head chef later in life. However, he's always had a passion for writing and decided to go back to school. This pursuit brought a change of career in 2023 when John joined CBR as a freelance Anime, Movie, and TV Feature and List writer, and he hasn't looked back. Aside from his work with CBR, John has been featured at FanSided's Dork Side of the Force. Moreover, some of his non-entertainment-related articles, like food and beverage, have been featured in Daily Meal. Nowadays, John spends the time he's not writing cuddled up on the couch next to his beautiful and supportive wife and mis-adventurous dog, watching TV, or cooking something tasty.
Industry Focus
John has a Master of Arts in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio that emphasizes literary theory and critical analysis. He's a big proponent of the aspects within his field of study that promote concepts like "The Death of the Author" and "Art for Art's Sake." As a result, due to his love of subjective writing, cinema, and television, he enjoys pulling at all the little minute but detailed threads that comprise and make a piece of art tick and writing features and in-depth articles on his findings, whether it's a sitcom, a great novel, or a fantastic movie.
